Inspiration

Pretty Night Jasmines or Shiuli are shy night blooms only. With the first rays of the sun they mysteriously shed their delicate flowers on your path as swirls of the sweet jasmine scent fills the sky with that heady nostalgic feeling of festivities and home coming.

The floral motifs are of the Shiuli /Parijat/Night flowering coral Jasmine flower. It is one of the 8 divine flowers favorite of the Hindu Gods. According to Hindu mythology, this tree came out as a result of churning of the ocean by the Gods and Demons. So it is believed the flower is rooted in heaven.

The flower is a tiny one with four to five delicate white petals with a coral orange stem and center.

Description

Fabric:

The prints bloom in an altogether artistic appeal on the pure organic cotton (100% cotton), grown in India. Organic cotton is regular cotton that is grown organically without the use of any synthetic agricultural chemicals such as fertilizers or pesticides aside from the ones allowed by the certified organic labeling. The drape is light and comfortable. This cotton hugs you softly. It might benefit from starching after 4-5 wears but starching is not necessary at all.

Printing:

The motifs are screen printed on the fabric. Screen printing is a method in which ink is applied directly to the surface to be printed (substrate). The image to be printed is photographically transferred to a very fine fabric (the screen) such that the non-printing areas are blocked off and the fabric serves as a stencil. The ink is wiped across the screen to pass through the unblocked pores and reach the substrate. For each color to be printed a separate screen is prepared and the process is repeated. It is tedious and painstakingly done by hand.

I am a saree aficIonado.I own several sarees from Olee. I bought this saree for it’s lovely blue colour and delicate motifs of shiuli flower. It’s very easy to manage and does not crush or crumple easily.

    Loving this beauty
Brings back lots of memories of my childhood. We had a huge tree right outside my home. My grand mother would pick up these flowers , gently, from the ground, in the early mornings. She will make multiple garlands , sitting in the veranda, lips singing a devotional song and hands deftly stringing these delicate flowers. Just thinking about it gives me a sense of calm..
