Inspiration
Hidden away into the side of a cliff overlooking a gorge, is located one of the jewels of India, the Ajanta caves,a masterpiece of Indian art dated back to 6th century B.C. Ajanta is best known for its paintings and sculptors, remarkable ‘dry frescoes’, The magnificence of Ajanta embodies incredible grace, elegance and a refined quality of form. The paintings are created within a limited color palette of reds and Ocher, shades of green, and some highlights of lapis lazuli, black, lime and gypsum. The sculptural details at Ajanta are exemplary markers of the time. The complex carvings and paintings are dominated by panels of elephants enclosed in an entanglement of lotus flowers. The massive sculptures and cursive drawings are suggestive of an elephant’s grace and ponderous strength.
The saree is inspired by the incredible frescoes of the complicated art work of Ajanta. Kailasa is one of the main caves where elephant (karish) carvings are in supreme form. The base colour, yellow, is one of the few colours originally used in the frescoes. The saree with an ornate black border is a dignified and poised choice for professional or formal wear.

Description
Fabric:
The fabric is a pure linen weave with a thread count of 80 by 100. Linen is a textile made from the fibers of the flax plant .It is very strong and absorbent, and dries faster than cotton. Linen is hypo-allergenic, highly breathable, structurally sound fibre so products keep their shape and environmentally friendly – less water and chemicals to cultivate. The thread count determines number of thread per square inch of the fabric. Higher the thread count more robust and better the quality of linen .These linen yarns are Belgium linen which is by far the best in the world. The thread count of these linen sarees are higher than the standard thread counts of linen sarees which makes the fabric robust yet flows well due to the high quality yarns.
Printing:
The sculpture motifs are meticulously screen printing on the fabric. Screen printing is a method in which ink is applied directly to the surface to be printed (substrate). The image to be printed is photographically transferred to a very fine fabric (the screen) such that the non-printing areas are blocked off and the fabric serves as a stencil. The ink is wiped across the screen to pass through the unblocked pores and reach the substrate. For each color to be printed a separate screen is prepared and the process is repeated. It is tedious and painstakingly done by hand.
