Inspiration

Vikashini stood for courage and unbridled expression of her faith. A girl born of her father’s broken dreams and expectation was made to fit a male’s role in the society. She does not defy her father and lives up to his expectation, camouflaged in a man’s exterior. With time she rises out of this male subjugation and establishes herself as a woman warrior. She protects her land fiercely. Despite being herself she is vulnerable and without inhibition falls in love with her equal in abilities. She takes dejection from him with despondency but perseveres her love with grit and resolve. She seduces love with a woman’s charm. However, ephemeral are the weapons of beauty. She feels restricted if just beauty defines a woman’s  femininity. She abandons what is untrue to her nature and expresses herself the way she is meant to. She is accepted by her lover on her own terms and thus happens the true conquest of love. Inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s character of the warier princess – Chitrangada , a feminist voice who does not want to be worshiped as a goddess nor does she want to be dismissed as ordinary….like her we all want to be regarded for our worth.

This saree is bold and breaks the rules of symmetry and expectations. It is expressive and inimitable in style. Express(Vikas) without inhibitions.

Description

Fabric:

The vibrant prints find life in a pure cotton fabric. The fabric is slightly heavy and not soft like mull cotton. The drape keeps in place. The saree does not need starching and maintains it’s fall very well.

Printing:

The design is block printed on the saree. One of the oldest direct printing techniques is block printing, dating back thousands of years. In block printing, a design is carved into a hard substance like wood. Then, fabric is laid out flat, and the block is dipped in dye and pressed onto the fabric. Block printing doesn’t require many tools and can be done manually. The process is simply repeated until the desired effect is reached. Some printing blocks can be quite intricate. We have used multiple blocks to achieve the entire effect on the saree.
